The Olsson Family has been an integral part of Australia’s culinary landscape since 1948, as the oldest family-owned and operated sea salt maker in the country. Their time-honoured tradition of producing solar sea salt is a testament to their dedication to quality and natural processes.
Olsson’s employs a method known as “solar evaporation” for producing their sea salt. This environmentally friendly process harnesses the natural power of the sun and wind to evaporate seawater in large ponds. As the water evaporates, it moves through successive ponds, becoming increasingly concentrated. When the salt finally crystallises on the pond floor, it is carefully scooped up, washed in more seawater, dried, and then packaged for distribution.
Importantly, Olsson’s production method is completely devoid of chemical processes, ensuring that the sea salt retains its natural purity and quality. This commitment to maintaining the natural integrity of their product is what sets Olsson’s sea salt apart in the culinary world.
