OzHarvest
Bourke Street Bakery proudly supports OzHarvest, recognising the shared values in sustainability and community service. By partnering with OzHarvest, Bourke Street Bakery contributes to reducing food waste and providing food to those in need, reinforcing a community-focused ethos that enriches both organisations.
Founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn AO, OzHarvest emerged from a simple need to address the massive food waste Kahn observed in her events business. Initially, Kahn did not intend to start a charity but sought to solve a glaring problem with a straightforward solution. With a single van in Sydney, she began rescuing surplus food and delivering it to local charities.
From its humble beginnings, OzHarvest has grown into a leading food rescue organisation, driven by its mission to ‘Nourish our Country.’ Its distinctive yellow vans are a common sight in communities, collecting quality surplus food from a diverse network of donors including supermarkets, cafes, delis, restaurants, corporate kitchens, airlines, hotels, and other food businesses.
OzHarvest’s operational model is effective and impactful: every dollar donated enables the delivery of two meals to people in need.
