Good In The Hood
Bourke Street Bakery proudly supports “Good in the Hood” by contributing to their efforts, providing nourishing food to those served by the initiative. This partnership reflects Bourke Street Bakery’s commitment to community welfare and social responsibility, furthering our goal to be a force for positive change within our neighbourhood.
The initiative began in March 2020 when Marco De Angelis, owner of the Our Place on Darling restaurant, reached out to Vinnies Rozelle, offering to provide 20 free meals to residents facing hardships. With additional support from Vinnies and the Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre, the initiative, originally named 20for1, quickly expanded. It now manages volunteers, identifies additional locals in need, and handles management and logistics.
From these modest beginnings, the program has grown significantly. Numerous restaurants, cafes, and specialty food stores across the Balmain, Birchgrove, Rozelle, and Lilyfield areas have joined the effort. Today, the community initiative delivers over 280 meals each week, along with hampers and snacks, to those in need within the neighbourhood.
